"Myler curled up beside her, hardly flinching as his fur pressed against her bloody body. "I'll stay with you," he promised. "You're safe now."
Now this was hard to do! I really truly do love the entire book! The depth and description in the book is just amazing. You can really feel how the character feels. If I had to pick one part as my favorite, I would choose when Mapleshade is finished killing Appledusk. She just seems SO at peace! This section maybe when Mapleshade is the happiest. In this part, she runs into a barn where she meets a loner (cat with no clan) named Myler. He only wants to help. Mapleshade tells him: "Leave me alone. I don't need anyone," which to me is really sad. If Mapleshade had let Myler help her, this would've totally changed the story. She may have survived. I don't know if that's a good thing though. That's the only thing I don't like about this part. After Mapleshade refuses Myler, Mapleshade shows some doubt: "For a moment Mapleshade longed to call him back." This part is also the part where she dies. The book describes this feeling as "heavier than stones, stronger than the river." I feel like when she dies, she dies at peace. It even says: "instead of dread, Mapleshade felt a surge of triumph." This makes me feel like she died at peace, like she was happy with the time she died. Being a fan of Mapleshade, this makes me happy. That is the best part of the story Mapleshade's Vengeance!
